Book Review: Fallen

Book Review: Fallen by Ishika Gupta

Fallen is a novel written by Lauren Kate, an American author of adult and young adult fiction. It is the first of six books in the Fallen series which got 3.7/5 IMDB rating. It is a paranormal romance novel recommended for adults and young adults. The author lays an age limit for readers which is 13+. It was published in 2009 in the United States under Delacorte press. It consists of 452 pages and is available as printed copies, E-Book and audio book.

This book revolves around a teenage girl named Lucinda Price, popularly called Luce who is sent to Sword & Cross Reform School in Savannah, Georgia because she is accused of starting fire on a boy named Trevor, that Luce once had a small crush on, who died after this incident. The author portraits Luce as an extraordinary girl who can see shadows and doesn’t understand why. Upon arriving at reform school she met a lot of new people, along with others she met a boy named Daniel Grigori, a handsome and charming boy, the moment she saw him she felt that she has already met him before and her whole world gets turned upside down.

This book is an amazing read for fantasy and romance genre lovers. The author has written beautifully explaining the shadowy images which Luce can see, she wrote about fallen angels with wings which adds a paranormal experience in the novel. I can say it is very similar to Twilight but it consists of angels rather than vampires. It was just magical and spiritual. I love the way the author unfolds the twists which makes me read it without getting bored. The setting of the book is delightfully gothic, and includes church as an important part of it.

I couldn’t stop reading this book, and I had to finish it in one day. It has so many secrets, twists and a paranormal story which excites me to read it through the end. But it still leaves many questions unanswered which I am curious about. There is tension and suspense everywhere, mysteries get unravelled and I then knew it would be liked by the people who prefer thrilling romantic books. I personally liked it a lot because it was a romantic paranormal book consisting of a story of fallen angels. It was like a fairy tale. The author unfolds the mystery slowly which makes it a very interesting read and you will be very curious to know the end waiting for a big surprise. The story shows the real love of Daniel towards Luce and leaves a hint that real love lasts forever can be felt without getting intimate.

For me this book is just magical. The beginning was just so slow that I thought of putting the book down but later the mysteries were revealed and I enjoyed it. I am delighted to read it and I am looking forward to reading further novels of this series because I am very curious to know what happened next. According to me the rating for this book should be 8.5/10. I recommend this book to people who like fantasy and romantic stories consisting of angels, basically a lovely fairy tale with a pinch of paranormal experience.
